First National Conference on Landscape - Rome, 14-16 October 1999

The first occasion for institutional reflection on the theme of landscape was an event organized at the Historic Complex of San Michele at Ripa Grande, in Rome, 14-16 October 1999.

The discussions involved the participation of superintendents, university professors, art historians, archaeologists, ecologists, engineers, communications specialists and representatives of local governments and private associations in the sector. The sessions addressed the themes of Italian and European legislation, sustainable development, quality in architectural planning, archaeology and historic features of the landscape in Italy, and finally communications and education in landscape matters: a variety of issues and presentations that reflect the interdisciplinary character of “landscape” cultural heritage.
